Bungalo Books is one of North America's greatest little book publishing
companies. It was started by illustrator/author John Bianchi and
editor/publisher/author Frank B. Edwards in 1986.
Frank thought that John was one of the funniest guys he had ever met and
suggested they start turning John's ideas into picture books for kids. No
one is quite sure why John agreed to go into business with Frank.
Anyway, Bungalo's first book (The Bungalo Boys: Last of the Tree Ranchers)
was successful enough that the pair continued working together on more
projects. To date, they have created 30 books and have sold almost 1.5
million copies of their work -- thanks to the efforts of Firefly Books
their (Toronto-based) North American distributor.
Their stories have been translated into French (Les Editions Heritage in
Montreal) and Spanish (by Bungalo Books), been selected by numerous book
clubs (including Troll and Scholastic book fairs), shown on television,
read on radio and been featured in newspapers and magazines. They even
helped produce an interactive CD-ROM entitled The Bungalo Boy's Big Fish
Fish for Corel Corporation.
Bungalo Books is headquartered in Kingston, on the north shore of Lake
Ontario, not far from the Thousand Islands. Frank manages the company's
business affairs at that location while John, working from his studio on
the edge of Tucson, Arizona, is the creative force behind the illustration
and design of the books. Both contribute equally to the concepts and words
behind the stories. They visit each other regularly, send lots of email and
run up awesome phone bills keeping in touch.
